An FCC fine is just the start for a Florida pirate. The Orange County, FL Sherriff’s Department alleges Balthazard Senat operated a pirate station known as “Street Heat” at 91.3 FM, broadcasting ads for the gang and running commercials for prostitutes and illegal drugs.
When the Orange County Sheriff’s Gang Unit and FCC field agents raided the home, they found Senat at the microphone smoking pot. In the months leading up to their March 2009 raid on the station — allegedly operated out of Senat’s home — police say he also aired programming that would clearly have run afoul of FCC indecency regulations. Cops say a listener unhappy with the tone of the programming helped lead them to Senat’s doorstep.
Florida is one of the few states where local police actively pursue criminal charges against pirate operators. Senat still has criminal charges to face. Now the FCC’s just hit him with a $10,000 fine.
Still, ads for hookers and drug dealers; tres creative.
