It just may happen.
At least to your kids.
A Danish study that Bradley Bouzane of Canwest News Service writes about in tomorrow's papers says that half of babies born in this millenium will live to be 100.
The University of Southern Denmark's Aging Research Center's study looked at The Great White North and seven other nations: the United States, Japan, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and the U.K.
The key is increased and better health care, especially in the young and even before birth.
Something like pneumonia, which was a death sentence less than a century ago, is relatively benign in 2009.

770...The Arctic Is Secure
The Canadian Press is running a story that says that, on the down low as it were, last month the Danish defense chief Admiral Tim Sloth Jorgensen got a tour of the Canadian Arctic, the Arctic that his tourmates Stephen Harper, he's the PM, and Peter McKay, he's Belinda Stronach's ex BF, are letting slip away.
But props to the Tories, having the Danes and their multi man army on our side says something.
I am not sure what it says but it says something.

582...EU Approves Seal Product Ban
I have said it before and I will say it again.
Let's ban the seal hunt and pay everyone in the industry a nice big chunk of change to retire from the bidness.
Then the World Wild Life Federation and People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals can move on to some other, loftier issue.
I still wonder why they, WWF, PETA, Bridgette Bardot, are so vexed by the seal hunt, seals being killed by the thousands, yet have no problems with lambs, who are killed by the tens of millions. Reference Post 17o for more information.
Lambs have souls too. Plus they are cuter.
My little rant comes on the heels of a Canadian Press report that the European Community, over the objections of member states Denmark and Romania, has decided that they will ban seal products from the EU.

581...Our Home And Freezing Land
Randy Boswell, Canwest News Services, informs us that Stephen Harper isn't kidding when he says that we are going to assert our sovereignty over the Arctic.
Glad that is settled.
The sitting government's ongoing high profile promotion of the Arctic file seems to indicate that Prime Minister Stephen Harper sees polar politics as a part of a winning strategy in the next election. The new report being reported on by Canwest summarizes concrete action in the four main areas of the government's northern strategy.
The four areas are sovereignty, social and economic development, the environment and governance reform. These are key areas especially with the rapidly retreating sea ice playing a huge factor.
As important as the Canadian electorate is, the real people that Mr. Prime Minister has to get to buy in to our Arctic strategy are the governments of Denmark, Norway, Russia and the States.

396...Thanks For Clearing That Up, Mr. Cannon
Randy Boswell writes in this morning's Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon has declared that we, we being Canada, are an Arctic superpower. Sorry, Arctic S U P E R P O W E R. Y'have to say these things really, really, really loud or no one listens.
He goes on to natter about how our superiority and blah, blah, blah will reach a consensus via the use of the United Nations and stuff such as etc. He then goes on to point out that there are five nations that border the Arctic, Canada, Russia, the U.S., Denmark and Norway, and we certainly are in the top five and that makes us an Arctic superpower. Er, S U P E R P O W E R.
Glad that is done.
