Merlin Olsen died in Los Angeles yesterday.
Off the radar for the last twenty years or so, Mr. Olsen was omnipresent, first as a college football star in the late fifties, early sixties at Utah State then as an NFL star defensive tackle with the Los Angeles Rams for fifteen years. After his football career he became both an announcer on NBC and CBS football telecasts and starred on family oriented shows like Little House On The Prairie.
He was 69.
