Sports.

Sooooooooooo bad. Their teams in every sport get killed all the time. Rugby lost a game by over 50. Men's soccer lost a game by 10. The basketball team, OMG, men and women, they would not win a game at the Special Olympics.

Jeff Davis of Postmedia News scribbled a piece that I read in yesterday's Montreal Gazette that there is a fear that 33 per cent of the profs at Canada's military colleges may be blown out to save coin.

I have a much better idea for DND and the Stephen Harpers. Since you obviously don't give a flying f*ck about sports at RMC just axe the whole program. Seriously. RMC sucks hugely at sports but has coaches that get paid and teams that travel all over the Great White North to get destroyed. D stroyed.

This is not a down period for RMC either; they have totally been terrible forever at everything. Everything.

Before you respond, I know the excuse. They work hard academically. Well so does Army, Navy and Air Force in the States but they don't suck at everything all the time. Air Force was top 25 in hoop for a bit this year; the Army/Navy football game gets 100,000 plus fans every year. And Air Force went to and won a football bowl against Toledo this season.

You want to save money on your military schools Department of National Defense; kill the athletic department. They are embarrassing. Always embarrassing.

It sure looks, if the polls are to believed, that Wild Rose, led by my Facebook friend Danielle Smith, is going to cruise to a majority in Alberta.

The Progressive Conservatives problem seems to be that they are a/too progressive and b/have too many federal Liberals helping them lose.

Wild Rose on the other hand has Tom Flanagan running their show.

4446...Here Is Why We Need Fighter Jets

We need fighter jets because, since 2007 the Russian Air Force has been probing Canadian air space with bombers with some regularity.

Ground-based air defences have severe limitations which potentially make them ineffective against high-flying bombers, in this case, Russian bombers. Fighter/interceptors, in this case, Canadian CF-18's are the best tool currently available for repelling Russian bombers. It is Canada's responsibility to defend Canadian airspace against any and all foriegn incursions, whenever and wherever required. In a country as vast as Canada, fighter/interceptors are the best, largely, the only tool which can do that job effectively.

We need fighter/interceptors for this reason - to protect Canadian airspace.

In addition, we need fighter/bombers or strike-fighters to provide close air support for troops on the battlefield. Sometimes, close air support is the only means available of effectively suppressing or destroying the enemy, to ensure mission success. Increasingly, that means UAVs, but the technology behind UAVs has not yet progressed to the point where they can be a complete replacement for fighter/bombers, or strike-fighters.

In sum, that's why we need fighter-jets. To gain and maintain air superiority, to ensure airspace defence, and to provide close air support.

4445...They Are Going To Fire Don Cherry

Sure they are, that plays well with the chattering classes who are the people that the people who run the CBC chill with.

Thing is at 800K a year Don Cherry is the lowest paid employee at CBC TV, not the highest. That is if you factor the return the Mother Corp gets on its investment.

Problem with Mr. Cherry is, of course, that he is an echo of what a large chunk of Canadians are like and the CBC doesn't want that. The CBC wants to reflect a stylized version of Our Home And Native Land: Point Grey, Tuxedo, The Glebe. Not Tim Hortons.

So there you go.

James Di Fiore [who's dat? don't know] had a great take on Mr. Trudeau's decision:

Trudeau will not lead the LPC into anything other than extinction. You can't just pretend someone is a good leader. They actually have to be seen as a statesman. Justin is not a statesman. He is the world's only 40 year old you could accurately describe as precocious.

I'm thinkin' Mr. Di Fiore is not a fan.

4443...That Settles That Then

From Vancouver's News1130 and The Canadian Press comes this news on the new Leader of the Opposistion, Thomas Mulcair. Speaking at the Economic Club of Canada, here in Ottawa, he had this to say:

"The NDP is resolutely in favour of development, as long as it's sustainable development," Mulcair told an audience of 200 that was heavily stocked with New Democrats.

"The NDP is resolutely in favour of trade, as long as it's fair trade. And the NDP is going to do everything it can to create a Canada that is more prosperous, as long as it's more prosperous for everyone."

He also pointed out that when the NDP is in power provincially they run a tight ship economically. "There might have been one exception, the Bob Rae government in Ontario."

4442...Trayvon Martin Meet Torii Hunter

Shades of Trayvon Martin in this TMZ report via Bleacher Report on what happened to Torii Hunter yesterday.

BTW for those of you who don't know, Mr. Hunter is a baseball star for the oddly named Anaheim Angels of Orange County California Who Are Also Close To Los Angeles. Something like that; they keep changing it up. Seasoned fans like moi jus' call them the Angels.

Anyhow, le cut, le paste.

Los Angeles Angels stud Torii Hunter was staring down the barrel of a loaded firearm yesterday ... when cops raced to his mansion in Newport, CA ... and drew their weapons on the MLB star.

Hunter admits it's kind of his fault ... explaining on Twitter that he accidentally triggered the house alarm ... and 20 minutes later cops had arrived to the property to investigate the scene.

Hunter says he went outside to talk with the cops ... and, "They drew their guns on me."

But then Hunter suggested he was racially profiled ... tweeting, "They didn't believe I lived here in Newport Coast so they walked me upstairs at gunpoint to get my ID."

He continued, "When I showed him my ID, he said I'm an Angel fan hope u guys have a great season. ARE U KIDDING ME!!!!!! Lol."

One of Hunter's teammates chimed in with a tweet that read, "That's racist."

Hunter responded, "lol ... Now you know I can't say that."

A short time later, Hunter changed his tune ... tweeting, "Hey Twitterland! I'm not upset that the cops did their job today. I'm actually glad they were protecting home."

He added, "It was my fault that the alarm went off anyways. I just thought it was cool to let u guys know my awkward moment for today. The cops that were here today had there guns drawn but pointed downward in for safety. Those guys handled the situation like trained cops."
