3888...Speaking Of Free Speech

I just grabbed this off of Radio-Info.com and OMG.

Neal Boortz' "dead thugs" comment is causing a divide

Talk host Neal Boortz made the comments on his radio show in Atlanta last week, saying "This town is starting to look like a garbage heap. And we got too damn many urban thugs, yo, ruining the quality of life for everybody. And I'll tell you what it's gonna take. You people, you are - you need to have a gun. You need to have training. You need to know how to use that gun. You need to get a permit to carry that gun. And you do in fact need to carry that gun and we need to see some dead thugs littering the landscape in Atlanta. We need to see the next guy that tries to carjack you shot dead right where he stands. We need more dead thugs in this city."

A number of liberal news sites blasted Boortz's comments, and syndicated talker Ed Schultz challenged Boortz to appear on his MSNBC show to debate his comments, with no reply from Boortz. The Radio-Info Atlanta board has been debating Boortz's comments since the controversy first began. You can join the discussion here. Boortz is heard in Atlanta on news/talk WSB (750 and 95.5).

If this happened on one of our talkers it would most likely get them called in for a private meeting with the CRTC, doncha think?

3887...My Un Heroes: CSBC Haters

Re Le Affaire Erickson-Gillis, Peter Worthington in the SUNs reports that the story on SUN TV "...provoked so many complaints to the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (some 4,300 of them compared to a yearly average of around 2000), that the CBSC begged the public to send no more, and that they had enough to deal with."

I am willing to bet that Margie Gillis was not one of those complaintants. As I remarked earlier today, if Le Affaire Erickson-Gillis was an HBO Prize Fight the belt would have gone to Miz Gillis. Plus the whole thing has raised the profile of dance in Our Home And Native Land.

The 4,300 losers who complained to the CSBC, which is a non governmental make work project by a bunch of Josef Goebbels wannabes, should try and grasp the concept of free speech and the concept of everybody-doesn't-think-like-you.

3886...My Hero: Krista Erickson

A couple of nights ago on SUN TV the only hot woman on Canuckistanian TV Krista Erickson just went off on Margie Gillis who, and coz it isn't on TSN or RDS I didn't know this, is a superstar ballerina.

Anyhow, big ups to Miz Erickson for representing the masses of SUN TV viewers who think that money spent on twirlly dancing is wasted. One of them is Peter Worthington of the SUN newspaper group who today wrote that "I tend to agree with Erickson. If, as Gillis says, the average dancer gets $12,000 a year and needs public financing to survive, it basically means that taxpayers are subsidizing a hobby. If the public is unwilling to pay to see performers, perhaps the performers should be in some other line of work? As with artists who need Canada Council financing — if the public won’t buy their work, why should the taxpayer subsidize their hobby?"

I don't agree with either Mr. Worthington or Miz Erickson but I think it is fantastic that their point of view is out there.

Plus this was a pretty good twenty minutes for Miz Gillis; I never heard of her and I bet a lot of us never did either. But, I tell you, next time she comes to town she will, at minimum, be on my radar. Exposing phillistines like moi to dance canna be a bad t'ing, no?

3885...My Hero: Margie Gillis

You probably have heard the story but it bears repeating.

A couple of nights ago on SUN TV the only hot woman on Canuckistanian TV Krista Erickson just went off on Margie Gillis who, and coz it isn't on TSN or RDS I didn't know this, is a superstar ballerina.

Anyhow, big ups to Miz Gillis who absorbed every shot that Miz Erickson gave her and gave back more.

Miz Erickson and SUN TV's beef was that over the last 13 years Miz Gillis and her band of dancers have been give a bit over a million dollars. Miz Gillis played the culture card, hard.

In the global sense, the global sense that includes our government spending 50 K so Stephen Harper can go to Boston to see a hockey game, a million for a troupe of dancers strikes the WFDS as a bargoon.

If it was a prize fight I think that Larry Merchant would have been interviewing Miz Gillis after the fight as she held the belt.
