As you know I sincerely believe that the greatest invention of the 19th century was the Catholic school girl uniform, of the 20th century the cheerleader outfit and of this century Lululemon pants.
That theory was put to the test Tuesday night when yours truly was trying to blend in, sans sombrero, at a local pub. Sitting on the stool next to me was this woman who was, well, the exception to the rule.
Lululemon management: ixnay the xxlay izesay, okay?

1364...It Is Canada's Capital, Your Capital
And, as I have said repeatedly, Larry O'Brien is both going to run for another term and he is going to win in the same way that Mayor Bureau won across the river: with like 35 per cent of the vote.
One on one against a progressive/liberal/ndp type, he gets destroyed. More than one progressive/liberal/ndp type and it is another four years of confusion.
Hey, don't blame me, I voted for Barclay Pollock last time out.

1363...Do You Know Where Jesus Lives?
Apparently he lives in prison.
The headline could be "Kill The WFDS Now" but the Vancouver Sun decided to go with "Faith-based prison units proposed in Manitoba, Langley; Advocates of program say it entails a separate prison wing where inmates are taught Christian biblical values".
You say tomato I say stab me.
I digress. Because, like all of the right wing law and order initiatives brought forward by our beloved Conservative government, it has worked so incredibly well in America, they have zero crime there now, save the odd cop shooting, Prison Fellowship International is proposing to bring faith based, Christian faith based, prison units to prisons in Langley, British Columbia and in Manitoba.
The Christian slant is, of course, pissing off the other religions. Wahida Valiante, national president of the Canadian Islamic Congress "I have a real issue with ... taking a certain part of prison, and saying this is where we have these Christian prisoners so we provide them with specialized services..."
Personally I think that what the system that Prison Fellowship International would be introducing into the prisons would make them like the Catholic high schools of my youth. With less violence, of course.

1362...93.1 Wednesday Morning
For you, if you are in Ottawa, 93.1 and for you if you are in the world, www.ckcufm.com, it is me.
Tomorrow around 6 15 Bob McKenzie of TSN will be calling in to talk about his new book, "Hockey Dad: True Confessions of a (crazy?) Hockey Parent".
Later in the hour, Mr. Angry, tic.
And the most important component, you.

1361...It Takes A Leader
To do something that could cost votes but Michael Ignatieff is a leader.
Canadian Press has the breaking news that "Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff says his party will support legislation implementing a harmonized sales tax in Ontario and British Columbia. He says it's good policy and the provinces asked for the harmonization to help create jobs and make their economies more competitive."
As I mentioned in Post 1348...Stephen Harper Loads His Gun, Mikey I is in a tough spot; the Liberal Premiers of British Columbia and Ontario want the HST; the voters in the provinces not so much.
Even if the bill failed, the Stephen Harpers are not treating it as a confidence vote coz the impetus for the bill comes from the provinces.

1360...This Is Funny
If Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble had a country its name would be Newfoundland and it would be run just the way you would expect Fred and Barney to run a country. The way Newfoundland is run.
Dyall recall the Sprong Galleries, I think that was the name of the giant greenhouses in, I recall, Mount Pearl, a suburb of the capital, St. John's? Yes, the genie who were running Newfoundland at the time thought "...hmmmmmm, let's corner the world cucumber market...we will all be rich..." Or move to Alberta.
They all moved to Alberta.
Go back a dozen or so years from that brilliant move and you have the great sell off of Churchill Falls, Labrador power to Quebec. Deal made in 1969, it has made 22 000 000 000 dollars for the dealee, Hydro-Quebec and a mere billion for the Newfoundland government.
Every few years the government of The Rock tries to weasel Quebec into breaking or amending the deal, a deal that ends in 2041 and every few years Quebec says f*ck you, a deal is a deal.
Hydro-Quebec doesn't play. They just paid a shade under 5 bill for New Brunswick power and have defended their deal with Newfoundland all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada with success.
The Canadian Press reports that "...Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams says a fresh and 'compelling' legal argument is behind another appeal to Quebec to reopen the Churchill Falls hydroelectric deal."
Surely you jest.

1359...Weighty Issues
Gary Loewen's column in this mornings Toronto Sun has this tidbit:
"An underwear model and personal trainer in Australia gained 88 pounds in three months just to experience the lifestyle of his hefty clients, ESPN.com reports.
Now that’s dedication."
